About

«Transitions», the new album by Fiona Daniel, is immersed in the contrasting soundscapes of hospital and nature. This is not by chance. Daniel has spent most of her last years in and out of hospitals, caring for the people closest to her while coping with hearing loss.

Through these long, tumultuous days, out of an intuitive urge to maintain a sense of her identity, Daniel began to experiment with field recordings and soundresearch.

Based on the soundmaterial and her experiences, she composed several tracks on piano and voice and recorded them in collaboration with Alberto Malo (rhythms and electronics), Ella Ronen (lyrics corrector), Emma Thomazeau (harp, rhythms), Fabien Iannone (doublebasse, synths, rhythms, recordings, mixing) and Louise Meynard (cello, rhythms) in july 2024 in Switzerland.

The ten compositions of this project are all connected. They lead the listener through the various stages of dealing with the most diverse, sometimes unexpected and dramatic, before-and-after moments that, are an inseparable part of being human.

Sometimes they are lengthy, sometimes incredibly fast. Then sudden and unexpected, painful or inspiring or filled with joy, and sometimes they even go by unnoticed.

In this world that Daniel creates, voice, piano, harp and cello remain in constant dialogue with each other and are interwoven with sounds from the hospital and nature to create the most personal, and the most universal work of Daniel so far.
